jaars other people is pleased to present a new solo record of guitar and live custom electronics artist patrick higgins, an american avant-garde composer and producer from new york city. higgins is known for his work in experimental and contemporary classical music, playing guitar and composing in the mythical avant-noise-jazz ensemble zs. his solo work as a composer unites european avant-garde forms with the post-minimalist howl of new york. his upcoming release on other people, dossier, is a four-movement piece performed live without overdubs or edits. all of the samples and synthetic patches were custom built and specifically engaged to become elements of live guitar manipulation. the sound world is post-apocalyptic in spirit but builds to an intimate and reflective end. the material was developed over a two-year period and finalized at the end of 2016. cover art is by alfredo jaar.

lyon beatsmith saint paul made an impressive full debut in 2017 with his introspection ep on moonrise hill material (which he co-runs with his boys folamour, ethyène and kaffe crème). after tasty contributions to v/as on the likes of apparel wax and fhuo, the frenchman is back with another solo record on dc s better listen records. the naturist behavior ep is a tastefully balanced, warm-weather oriented four tracker. the title track and the a2, a hawaiian trip, explore playful and jazzy territories. meanwhile, the flip hosts moodier ventures via the bittersweet boogie of tell me- and the ice cold late night jam, feels good.

with »redsuperstructure«, robert lippok created a new foundation for his musical endeavors. now � 7 years later � this system properly comes to life on »applied autonomy«. the title of the new album is a clear indicator as to what the berlin-based producer has been up to during the last couple of years, both on a conceptual level as well as how he molds his ideas into tracks. »applied autonomy« orchestrates a certain state of frantic standstill, which occurs once a structure is set. has this state been reached, the artist is free to focus on other equally important aspects, balancing the various shades, pushing ideas even further to really make them shine and blossom in their self-declared autonomy. the more light one lets in, the more layers become visible. layers are key when it comes to understanding »applied autonomy«. big chunks of the material with which the album has been produced derive from sketches specifically made for a club performance. rather than meticulously devising each and every detail, lippok focussed instead on recording as many fragments as possible in a short period of time, elements which he could later combine and layer on stage. based on this material and his experience experimenting with it in a live environment, the album slowly began to shape. an album culminating in a collaboration with klara lewis, with whom lippok spent 2 days at the ems studios in stockholm, approaching the idea of autonomy from yet another angle. during the session, both musicians played and performed simultaneously, yet not explicitly together, lost in their own thoughts and ideas, only subconsciously taking in what the other one was coming up with. the result is »samtal«, 14 minutes of a constantly evolving state of poise, magically connecting all the dots lippok had already defined as »applied autonomy«. the artwork for »applied autonomy« has been created by the berlin-based argentinian artist luca gutierrez. over the last couple of years, he has made a name for himself with his spectacular av performances.

those who experienced listening to the original maria rita version of -cântico brasileiro nº3 (kamaiurá)- on the dancefloor know it�s such a thrilling experience that could only be better if the song was a bit longer. at the same time, it didn�t make much sense to mess with the original. having these thoughts on their minds, the selvagem boys augusto olivani and millos kaiser (the minds behind selva discos) had an insight while discussing the reissue of the -brasileira- material with singer maria rita stumpf: why not hit the studio and remake the track? also, why not ask someone like joakim, known for his exquisite taste and brilliant production skills, to remix -lamento africano/rictus-? it would be the perfect package. and that�s what happened.

brother and sister eric and arrontette mcclinton had been recording for many years. around 1976 they did a 45 release together on honey records called -where you are- under the their christian names, although eric was spelled eryke! the single didn�t have much success but both brother and sister still went on to be amazing backing singers working for legendary producers mike theodore and dennis coffey. whilst they were under the watchful eye of the production team they recorded some material again and a duo for theo/coff in a bid to get them another record deal and show their capabilities. these songs never got releases. eric became and prolific song writer and also joined the group high fashion. we are super pleased to finally release the shelved songs from 1978. this in one of two releases by the duo.

it was vladimir ivkovic who introduced me to the world of rex ilusivii. a world where the spirit of a genius holds sway. i remember spending an entire night at vladimir s house in germany, listening to all those recovered pieces, and feeling like i had entered another space-time. mitar tragically left us, one november night in 1999 in brazil, leaving behind an extensive body of work consisting of more than 500 pieces, for the most part never released. being submerged in such a unique universe, so singular, brought me happiness. it also filled me with hope, because i tell myself that today there must be many other outstanding musicians who produce in the shadow of the traditional circuit, just for the pleasure of making music. listening to the music of mitar suboti&#263,, makes you part of his world. he did not stop producing from 1983 to 1999, in different styles, but with an instantly recognizable touch.his music also marries the evolution of recording techniques with new instruments that have appeared over this time, from the tr808 to the digital samplers. it took me more than two years to select the music for this record, as each time i listened to the material it revealed other details and other possibilities. i am extremely happy and honored to present this record to you, in which i try to do justice to the different, versatile- facets of suba.

suction records is proud to present ii - a new, archival ep release by italian duo d�arcangelo. we like to think of ii as an imaginary sequel to the duos classic 1996 debut ep on aphex twins legendary, now-defunct rephlex records (also reissued on suction last year). just like their debut ep, the material on ii was recorded in the �90s using hardware synths, samplers, and fx. also like their debut, ii similarly features fierce, crunchy industrialized electronix on side a, backed with melodic, robotic electro (the darcangelo brothers call these tracks their diagrams) on side b. four of the six tracks are previously unreleased, while aom2 (an absolute monster rephlex-style distorted beat track) and diagram ix (a timeless slice of early-human league-style synth pop) come from long-out-of-print 90s vinyl comps on eclectic records and suction records, respectively.

lybes dimem is a project by visual artist and musician lukas rehm. with elaborate beat structures and the use of error, the music plays with cognitive phenomena and abstraction while maintaining an emotional refuge. lybes dimem is presented in formats ranging from spatial sound experiences to synesthetic shows complementing the auditive layers with visualizations of realtime data, computer graphics and moving image. lukas rehms installative art, and compositions have been internationally presented and awarded with multiple emerging arts prices. syncleft chronem is the first album released by lybes dimem in both digital and vinyl for-mat and accompanied by a moving image artwork. the title reflects the projects interest in the potential of difference, cognitive frictions and exertion: sync variability in the processing of auditive and visual signals, syncleft the synaptic cleft, which is a crucial empty spa- ce in biological neural networks, chronem the chroneme as a theoretical unit to measure the time of an articulated sound. mathematically clean sounds juxtapose patterns and transitions familiar from the realm of organic acoustics. multi-layered noise textures ex- plore the simulated space. a tem- porary continuity is provided by percussive and melodic elements, right until the next escalation, eventually awaiting a concluding resolution. the visual language explores different phenomena and techniques of cognition inspired by the rhetorics of big science (computer graphics, discontinuity of material, pop cultural references).

incl dl code, dam swindle present �high life, their second studio album due on the 28th may on the duos own heist recordings. the heart of the album was recorded over a three week period at their amsterdam studio in march 2017, and the release will coincide with the fifth anniversary of the label. since forming in 2011, the dutch duo have carved a unique place for themselves in the scene. their sound - which merges references from multiple decades into one smooth aesthetic - quickly rose to popularity for its careful blend of soul and rhythm, taking cues from their passion for obscure records, with influences ranging from house and funk to afrobeat and soul. dynamic live shows and dj sets afford them a packed touring schedule across the globe, whilst their label heist recordings is credited with consistently breaking new artists. the album explores the intersection of live and electronic music, with much of the improvised material left largely untouched to maintain its organic sensibilities. dam swindle describe the album as an electronic album with a live approach, combining our love for house, ambient and jazzy harmonics, making it a record interesting for the club, as well as a pleasant album to put on at home.

following the u.s. army�s liberation of munich in may 1945, the world�s first amerikahaus was inaugurated there with a library, a magazine reading room, a children�s library, a record and lm department, and lecture and seminar rooms, together with a concert hall and exhibition space. up to 80.000 people a month utilized the offerings of amerikahaus during its early years. beginning in 1953, the united states information agency (usia), an institution founded as an instrument of the cold war, began to finance amerikahaus. in addition to representing the u.s., its principal task in west germany was to democratize and denazify the postwar population. after the beginning of the cold war, many of these re-educative measures also served as propaganda in a programmatic linking of democratic and economic principles meant to strengthen transatlantic relations against the communist bloc. in 1997, the u.s. government concluded its work at amerikahaus in munich and shipped almost all its items back to the states. however, 1.630 long-playing vinyl records from the library were left behind in cardboard boxes in the basement. when michaela melián looked through this forgotten collection, one of the first things she came across was don gillis� 1940 tone poem »portrait of a frontier town«, whose second movement is entitled »where the west begins«. don gillis, a composer and radio producer, used the musical styles and genres of that decade to create an explicitly american program music. michaela melián�s »music from a frontier town« is fueled by the diverse sonic material of this extensive record collection once considered as an instrument of cultural education. this record has been produced in addition to melián�s twenty-four hour performative music installation »music from a frontier town« in the garage of what is now the bavarian center for transatlantic relations at karolinenplatz, munich (4-5 may 2018).

rickard jäverling, born and raised in borlange, sweden, and now living and working in stockholm is a wayward and productive musician. besides releasing material under his own name, jäverling is/has been part of constellations such as dodens dal, liljor and jäverling von euler. album 3, released on hoga nord rekords is his third solo album. album 3 breathes psychedelia, dub, swedish folk, progg and continental vintage electronic music. the songs on this album are in a way like a compilation of short stories rather than chapters in a novel. the common factor in this album is jäverlings exquisitely worked out melodies and the warm, round production but the songs can, due to the rich storytelling qualities of each one of them, almost be regarded as small albums of their own! the music made by richard jäverling is an embrace, a relative with a house by the swedish west coast or a day off, midweek in april. this album is inviting and calming but also as solid and mighty as a dalecarlian beech tree.

dutch pioneer mg (aka gert van veen) is responsible for a series of huge house classics to ever emerge from the netherlands: a-men s pay the piper, quazar s seven stars, house of venus dish & tell. the list is long. under his lesser known moniker zodiac trax, gert produced some of his moodiest material. released in 1992 in two parts, these beautifully crafted tracks remained fairly unknown up to this day. for this re-issue frame of mind selected the deepest tunes from the obscure series. a previously unreleased track called planet x is included!

following her 1959 appearance in the anti-apartheid film come back, africa south african native miriam makeba vaulted into the international spotlight, fell under the tutelage of harry belafonte, and moved to new york city in 1960 where she immediately became a massive recording sensation. this lp collects some of that brilliant early material that launched her career and made her one of the most beloved voices of the 20th century. all tracks recorded 1957 - 1962.

the chisa years: 1965�1975 (rare and unreleased) is a compilation album by south african jazz trumpeter hugh masekela. the album consists of 14 rare or forgotten tracks recorded by stewart levine and hugh masekela from 1965 to 1975 when they ran their own chisa records label. thom jurek of allmusic wrote �in sum, there isn�t a weak moment on this entire collection. it�s appeal is wide and deep and one can only hope this is the first of many volumes of this material to appear. bbe records has done a stellar job in making this slab available.� dan nishimoto of the prefix magazine stated �the compilation focuses on masekela�s original idea of �african american music.� from the early experiments of the zulus (a group featuring m�bulu) in mixing doo-wop, rhythm & blues and south african gospel and the mbaqanga/�grazing in the grass�-style work of the generically named johannesburg street band to the clearly fela-influenced ojah (masekela�s band in the mid-�70s, consisting of players from ghana and nigeria) and the readyfor-primetime belting of m�bulu, each track reveals a multi-pronged effort to find and challenge the notion(s) of how african and american cultural forms could interact.�

alex attias got his start in back in �88 playing funk, house, jazz, and disco, as well as producing under various monikers such as mustang, freedom soundz or beatless. moving to london in �97 he started his �visions� label and found himself at the epicentre of the emerging west london �broken beat� scene which grew around his studio at goya. releases on people, planet e, ubiquity, neroli, archive and compost followed, as well as remixes for incognito, 4hero, ennio morricone, sun ra, art blakey, roni size and laurent garnier among others.

amsterdam-based artist and format-label honcho juan sanchez himself delivers a quartet of tracks carrying his signature sound for the label�s thirteenth release. never one to settle for the ordinary, juan sanchez� latest outing follows a more conceptual approach to techno. each track adds its own flavor to the mix, with the ep as a whole being a combination of dubby and dancefloor-fused material. synth and bass arps, stripped grooves and driving drums are the main ingredients of juan�s sound, all of which come together across this ep�s four-track canvas. the result is a balanced mix of both dubby and dancefloor-tinged techno laced with experimental twists and turns. with his new release, juan adds another quality slice of techno to the format roster.

hugo manuel is better known by his musical alias chad valley. a product of oxford�s prolific creative community, chad valley has amassed a catalogue that spans four studio releases, numerous collaborations and dozens of remixes. his 2010 debut � a self-titled exploration in swirling synths and sunburnt melodies � laid the groundwork for 2011�s equatorial ultravox, which gave his downtempo productions a decidedly more pop-leaning twist. it was with equatorial ultravox, and his 2013 album young hunger, that chad valley�s profile sprung forward, strengthened by a string of key touring slots supporting the likes of erasure, chvrches, active child and passion pit, and by his collaborations with el perro del mar, glasser, totally enormous extinct dinosaurs and twin shadow. after releasing 2015 s sparkling entirely new blue and continued touring extensively, as he now prepares to release his third full-length album in 2018. imaginary music includes the previously released singles �up again� and �la in august,� both of which bolster one of the strongest batches of material chad valley has yet delivered. the vinyl release includes a download code.

icelandic techno veteran yagya enjoys a release on x/oz that celebrates both new and old material. the tempo is noticeably ramped up on -one weak light- but never at the expense of that dark and mysterious icelandic hue. -existence is weird- is no slouch either, but yagya shapes out his atmospheres with such a refined touch that you barely notice how quick the tracks are running. -a very long daydream- is a gorgeous ambient track dug out of the archives, while -getting closer to an unknown goal- sees the re-release of a track yagya released as rhythm of snow back in 1999.

music from memory return with more �music from the living room�. delving further into the archives of british musician michal turtle, mfm 029 �return to jeka� brings together eight previously unreleased works recorded between 1983 and 1985. drawn from a larger archive of works the compilation highlights a fascinating period of material michal recorded after the release of his only album.

mikkel metal returns to copenhagen�s echocord this may with his new mini lp �just enough light�, comprising six originals from the danish artist. copenhagen based producer and dj mikkel metal has been a beacon of light in the danish electronic music scene and further afield for nearly two decades now, with the dub techno imprint from his hometown, echocord, being the predominant home for his output, whilst also releasing material on cologne�s kompakt, tartelet, semantica and avant roots, a telling sign of the quality embodied in his work. here though we see mikkel deliver a mini album concept in the shape of �just enough light� and opener �awake� perfectly sets the tone with emotive, dynamically unfolding atmospherics, tension building bass drones and spiraling dub chords subtly easing us into the project. �bregnan� then stirs in some classing dub-techno tropes with billowing stab sequences, lumpy subs and off beat high hats carrying the hypnotic groove for six and a half minutes. �jech� then strips things back to an almost beatless amalgamation of murky chords and modulating synth whirrs. opening the flip side of the release is �include� which embraces a brighter feel via ethereal pad swells, jazztinged synth melodies and bumpy 909 rhythms before �konkin� edges back into the eerie, brooding aesthetic with bubbling echoes, broken drums and menacing bass swells at its core. �restore� then closes the package on a stripped-back vibe, laying focus on an ever- eveolving singular dub chord to ebb and flow around thunderous subs, kicks and bright hats.
